Planting Seeds and Growing Together

UU Young Adults -

ages 18-35-ish, gather for social, spritual, and service activities. Currently the group holds Tuesday Night Movie Nights on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. Members meet at Club Charles at 8 p.m. for a beverage and socializing, then we cross the street to see a movie together at the Charles Theatre. (Club Charles is located directly across the street from the Charles Theater at 1711 N. Charles Street -- just north of Penn Station).

The UU Young Adults group is always looking for new activity ideas and leaders for group activities. Your input and volunteer time is greatly appreciated!

Come plant a seed with us! News about all upcoming UU YAG activities will be posted in the Sunday bulletin and on the UUYAG listserve, which you can join at: http://lists.jpd-uuyan.org/listinfo/balt-uuyag.

UU Young Adults Plan for Service, Socials, and Spiritual Gatherings

The Young Adults Group of the First Unitarian Church of Baltimore has discussed plans and ideas centered around a tri-fold mission of providing service and social justice activities, social events, and spiritual gatherings for UU Young Adults.

Social Justice. Recognizing that the First Unitarian Church of Baltimore and other UU churches of the Joseph Priestly District (JPD) are already involved in many social justice and service activities, we're encouraging our UU Young Adults to get involved in existing groups such as BRIDGE and the Caring Circles. Nicole Leahy has agreed to serve as our Service Secretary and will keep us informed of events and service opportunities in our church and throughout the UU Association. During the 2004-2005 year, our group has participated in BRIDGE activities, the JPD Mayhem Social Justice Retreat, the Peace March on September 11th, and various other service and social justice activities. Kathy Harget will be serving on this year's Mayhem planning committee.

Socials. Our ongoing Tuesday Night Movie Night (2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month) has attracted many young adults out for a fun night on the town. These social events are important to help members get to know each other better, support each other, and grow strong together. Our group has also participated in a Baltimore Symphony Orchestra event, potluck dinners, and other social gatherings.

Spiritual Gatherings. While oftentimes our social and service events lead us to spiritual discussion and growth, we'd also like to provide organized spiritual services for young adults. In the coming year, we'll be planning gatherings and events focused on topics that allow us to build our own theology and grow spiritually. Currently, some of our young adults are participating in the JPD's "Wandering Souls" program.

The Future of the Young Adults Group. In the next five years, we'd like to see this group continue to grow in numbers, bringing to us people with new ideas and areas of expertise that lead us new activities. We hope to form formal committees around our tri-fold mission. We will continue to collaborate and be in touch with other Young Adult groups in the JPD.

You're ideas?plant a seed! We're looking for more ideas and your input is important to us. While Kathy Harget serves as the chair of this group, we truly see our evolution as a group effort. Our activities are organized by not just one, but many young adults. We invite your input, expertise, and volunteer time, too! Imagine how this group will grow if each of us takes responsibility for just one event or activity per year?
