Our Stewardship Program

Stewardship

For 191 years, the First Unitarian Church of Baltimore has provided ethical, moral, and spiritual sustenance to religious liberals, offering a home to those who believe there is more than one source of truth. As stewards of this living tradition, we are responsible for sustaining it and helping it flourish. We make a commitment to pledge time, talent and treasure to sustain our church and to pass our tradition on to future generations. In attending First Unitarian Church, you are part of a vital and energized community of individuals who create an environment for all to pursue their spiritual paths, to profess their religious views, to work for social justice, and to worship, recreate and celebrate with one another. Our stewardship of the Church is each individual’s recognition of her/his responsibility for the Church’s management and well-being. More than 70% of the revenue of our church comes from congregational contributions.

What is the Financial Commitment Campaign?

The Financial Commitment Campaign is the time of the year when we ask members and friends to inform us of the amount of money they will commit to the Church for the coming year. To live the Church’s mission and accomplish our goals takes not only time and organization, it takes funding- each person’s annual commitment to the Church’s overall budget. The Church year runs from May 1 to April 30. The Financial Commitment Campaign for the coming year occurs toward the end of the current church year, so that plans for the coming year can be made in accordance with our expected income. Our budget is developed based on anticipated income. Overwhelmingly, the revenue which funds the Church’s operations comes from member contributions.

In addition to the individual financial commitment, there are a number of methods of supporting the church:

  • A Thanksgiving Offering for special projects
  • Occasional offerings for projects outside our church
  • Fundraising events and activities
  • The Organ Restoration Fund
  • Wills and Bequests
  • A capital campaign
  • Why make a financial commitment?

This Church is ours. Making a financial commitment is a way of expressing our overall commitment to the Church, its mission, and its activities. It is a means of ensuring that the aspects of the Church you value most-support of individual spiritual growth, reverence for different religious traditions, a caring, welcoming community, a commitment to liberal religious values-will continue to be there for us and for future generations. It is a means for us to sustain and strengthen the Church that sustains and strengthens us.

To the right, you will see all the forms you need to make a financial commitment during the 2008 Campaign by check, automatic withdrawal, or securities transfer. Please start by filling out the financial commitment form.

    Gift of Securities

It's easy to donate securities (stocks, bonds, etc.) to the First Unitarian Church of Baltimore. Some people prefer this method because of the tax advantages using appreciated securities. For those who wish to donate securities, we have created a simple process.
