Volunteer Opportunities for Shared Ministries

Pledging Committee

As the primary source of revenue for Church operations, the committee has many important, and even fun, tasks. In addition to making stewardship calls, we host small dinners, coordinate the Fellowship Dinner and other events, write/design materials, provide clerical support, and more. If you don't like asking for money, it doesn't matter - 75% of what we do isn't asking for money!

Auction

The more volunteers, the more successful this important church fundraiser; Members, friends, and businesses contribute services, crafts, art, dinners, etc. There are many different tasks - it is easy to find something you'd enjoy doing.

Bookstore

The bookstore operates after services during coffee hour. In addition to receiving and selling used books, volunteers greet visitors and provide a welcoming space to browse and get acquainted.

Choir

Join the Choir and enjoy singing on Sundays and special occasions. They claim to be the group that has the most fun, but you'll have to find that out for yourself.

Committees

Committees are responsible for making things happen at our Church. We encourage each person to join the committee(s) of his/her choice. You may not think you have the skills they need, but you do.
For committee descriptions and contact information: Committees .

Communications

Writing, editing, design, and layout for both internal and external communications and publications. Publications include our newsletter, The Beacon, the website, annual reports, and various brochures.

Gardening

With a little TLC, we will have a beautiful garden along our Charles Street wall. Even if you can volunteer only an hour a month, the garden will appreciate it!

Personnel

Experience with human resources tasks, including writing job descriptions, is of great value to both staff and Board.

Religious Education for Children and Youth

An all-volunteer effort, RE welcomes - and can only function with - your help. Please consider ways in which you can be part of a nurturing, loving, inspirational, educational program for our precious and precocious children and youth.

    Opportunities for a single event:

  • Staff and provide snacks for "Our Place", the refreshment table for children and youth, after services
  • Join the substitute list for times when the nursery assistant or a teachers' team needs an additional person
  • Help plan a special event like a Family Fun Night
  • Provide transportation and/or be a chaperon at a Youth conference
  • Be a "Secret Pal" to a child or youth
  • Demonstrate and share your talent, skill, and/or passion at one of the church school classes

    Opportunities for greater involvement:

  • Join the teaching team
  • Serve on a committee that meets monthly

Special Events

Can't make a monthly/weekly commitment? How about signing up for our Special Event Team? We will put you on our list to contact when we plan an event. Then, if you are available, you can join in.

Ushering

Ushers greet everyone who enters the doors on Sunday. We help take collections and welcome newcomers. This is one of the easiest ways to volunteer at our Church. Paul O'Brien is the head usher. Usher Coordinator is Rebecca Wald

Welcome Table

Opposite the Bookstore in the Community Hall on Sundays is the Welcome Table with a variety of materials about Unitarian Universalism and our church - a good place to meet people and learn about our Uncommon Denomination. Contact: Janice Zimmerman

Wedding and Union Planning

Help let others know about the Church as a wedding and union venue; includes contacting reception sites and local vendors to let them know what we have to offer.
