Weddings and Unions

A Sacred Space for a Special Day

Picture your wedding, holy union, or renewal of vows in our historic sanctuary,
with light streaming in through Tiffany stained glass windows by day -
or at night, with its brilliantly floodlit facade, and vaulted ceiling filled with star-like lights.
Whatever the time, whatever the season, our sanctuary is a place for you.

Come, Come Whoever You Are

Unitarian Universalists welcome people of all religious backgrounds and sexual orientations. We share common values, such as the moral worth and dignity of all people, and encourage each other to find our own spiritual paths. We have no creed, no single form of worship, and no single form for weddings and union services. Instead, we provide you with assistance to plan a ceremony that relects your personal beliefs, drawing on many different spiritual and inspirational sources.

Whether you're looking for the traditional or something unique, our clergy can help you to plan a service suited to your hopes and dreams. Alternatively, we will provide a list of other clergy who may be available to perform the service, or we will welcome your own officiant.

Access for Everyone

We have made a special commitment to provide an accessible facility, quite a challenge in a historic building with many levels, and we will do our best to accommodate everyone in your party. In addition to an elevator and a lift, we have a sound system for the hard of hearing, and a retrofitted accessible powder room. We also have American Sign Language interpreters available.

A Baltimore Landmark

Designed by the noted French architect, Maximilian Godefroy, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, our building was completed in 1818. The interior, with its Tiffany windows and mosaic, and the Niemann organ, dates from the 1890s.

The Organ

A gift from Enoch Pratt, member of the church for 65 years and a well known philanthropist, the historic Henry Niemann organ was installed in 1893 when the interior of the church was renovated.

More recent additions include symbols of the major religions, and banners reflecting our diversity and interdependence. We are dedicated to welcoming people from all backgrounds.
