First at First, Dec. 4, to include Free CPR Class!
We all struggle to find the time to deepen our spiritual explorations. Making space in your life for a six-week class or an all-day workshop may not be a possibility. “First at First” can be just the bite-size opportunity you’re looking for.
The first Sunday of each month will feature a selection of classes or groups after worship. All are welcome to join any group, whether an ongoing or one-time class. Bring your own lunch to enjoy before class. Groups will meet from 1 to 2:30 pm. Questions? Contact Director of Lifespan Religious Education, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We will have five different groups and classes meeting on Dec. 4, as follows:
Citizen’s CPR Workshop, taught by Mary Gardner. Join us for a FREE Citizen CPR training. All youth and adults are welcome! Please let This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it know in advance you're coming so the instructor can prepare the appropriate proper materials. The training will take approximately 45 minutes and will be in our own Pratt Parish Hall. This American Red Cross training is made possible by a grant earned by church member, Linnea Anderson.
Spiritual Autobiography, facilitated by Nancy West. Each of us are in the midst of spiritual journeys. Participants with share their own and listen to others’ stories of spiritual learnings, leavings and discoveries. This group will meet monthly in the first floor classrooms.
Dream Group, facilitated by Alice Lium & Nola Krosch. Using the dream work of Jeremy Taylor, participants will share their dreams in order to distill their meanings. No one knows what your dream means but you! Come to the Dream Room/Nursery on the first floor to discuss and discover.
Intro to Zen Meditation, led by Marcia Zeise. Learn a brief history and instruction of Zen Buddhist meditation, including the difference between Zen meditation and other meditation, as well as a little about meditation postures and breathing. Following will be a period of meditation practice and time in the sanctuary for questions and answers. Meet in the first floor classroom nearest the kitchen to begin.
Knitting Circle, coordinated by Lynn Poshepny. Folks will gather together to explore the spiritual practice of knitting while making mittens and other warm items for this year's annual Mitten Tree collection. Join us in the youth room.
With all these great opportunities, there's something for everyone!
"First at First" a draw for many on its inaugural day
Our debut First at First Sunday featured five small groups centered around different topics. Groups included Spiritual Autobiography; Knitting; Dream Group; Intro to Zen Meditation; and a conversation regarding UU Community Schools. Nearly 40 people attended.
Several of these groups will continue next month. The Dream Group, Spiritual Autobiography, and Knitting will be ongoing. The Intro to Zen Meditation will have one more meeting Dec. 4 before spinning off a regular meeting before church. Stay tuned for more information about that meditation group.
Whether or not you attended a program, this less-than-five-minute survey will help us tremendously! If you have additional feedback to give, please contact Director of Lifespan Religious Education, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
I hope you'll join us for the next First at First, on December 4. Don't forget to bring a bag lunch so you can enjoy an afternoon of fellowship and exploration.
