After a long hot summer the Knitting Circle is ready to meet again and to start a new project!
For the next three “First on First Sundays” we will welcome all knitters and “want-to-be-knitters” with a project to help the Social Action Clearinghouse fill the Mitten Tree this holiday season. The Mitten Tree is put up in the Parish Hall and all are encouraged to bring in mittens, hats, and scarves that are given to a local charity for distribution. So this is where you come in…
We will be offering three different projects for anyone who wants to learn to knit, or would like to get back into it after not knitting since childhood – in fact all children are welcome too!
Sunday, October 7: We will be starting with the basics with Knitting a Scarf. We will pair you with an experienced knitter and you will learn to “cast on”. learn the basics of “gauge”, and learn the knit and purl stitch (you will also learn what these words mean!).
Sunday, November 4: We will be progressing to Knitting a Hat. We will have a simple hat pattern available and we will teach you how to “knit in the round”, “decrease stitches” and follow a pattern.
Sunday, December 2: We will move on to Knitting Mittens. Again we will have a simple mitten pattern and we will teach you how to follow this pattern and “pick up stitches” to make that elusive thumb!
What we need now is people who are interested in learning this creative and meditative craft, experienced knitters who want to start someone along, and anyone who has any knitting supplies they may want to donate to the cause.
For any questions please contact Lynn Poshepny.
Let’s fill up that Mitten Tree!
