Our Elected Leaders
The First Unitarian Church of Baltimore is governed by elected leaders, who are committed to terms, based on the church’s bylaws. Elections are held once a year at the Annual Meeting in June, where those who have been members of the congregation for three months or more are given ballots of nominees submitted by the nominating committee. The congregation also votes on the church budget at each Annual Meeting.
Board of Trustees
This body controls and directs legal and financial affairs of the church. In addition, this group thinks long-term, leading the congregation in planning for a robust and sustainable future. Each year, the board creates a covenant that guides members in right relations.
The church’s Bylaws outlines terms and term limits of trustees. The officers (president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer) make up the Executive Committee, which has two responsibilities: meeting when necessary to make urgent decisions that cannot wait until the next scheduled board meeting and setting the agenda for each board meeting.
The whole Board meets on the third Wednesday of each month from 6:15 – 8:15 p.m. All Board of Trustees meetings are open to visitors, however if personnel issues arise during a meeting, the board has the right to ask for a closed meeting. Executive Committee meetings are the second Wednesday of each month starting at 6:15 p.m.
Church leaders and members who would like to have an item considered by the board should email the secretary of the board at least one day before the executive committee meeting. Any requests received after that date will be considered for the agenda at the following month’s executive committee meeting.
