The birth or adoption of a child is a moment in the life of a family which deserves to be celebrated. In a ceremony during the church service or held privately with family and friends, the child’s name is announced and, with flowers and water and sacred words, the congregation and family dedicate themselves to the upbringing of the child. A certificate of dedication or baptism will be created as a memento for the child.
Our clergy are happy to meet with parents to choose the words which will be used to bless the child and the day. We recognize that the ceremony will reflect the spiritual perspective of the parents, and that the child may grow to embark upon a spiritual path which is different from their parents. But the ceremony is our promise to raise the child with the deep values of unity and tolerance, fortitude and peace which are the foundation stones of First Unitarian Church of Baltimore.
